Even more winter sports close to Mayrhofen

Want to spend an active winter? As long as the snow is in charge here in Zillertal, boredom will never be a factor. How about a winter hike in snowshoes, an excursion to the ice rink, or a high-spirited sledding expedition? Even away from the pistes in the ski areas, there is so much to experience and enjoy here!

Cross-Country Skiing

You certainly don’t have to cross much in the way of countryside in order to begin your cross-country enjoyment. In fact, the Strasser Trail begins right outside the front door of Villa Romantica. Extending for some 800 meters, the trail as a whole is very flat. Other trails await you in, and on the outskirts of Mayrhofen: including the Durst Loipe, Moser Loipe and the 4.3 kilometer Marathon Trail. In the neighboring ski areas of Hochfügen-Hochzillertal and Gerlos, you can also look forward to some first-class alpine trails.

Sledding

2.5 kilometers in length and dropping 420 vertical meters: The Wiesenhof sled run offers everything you could want for a high-spirited sledding expedition. You will begin at Gasthof Wiesenhof, which you first reach either on foot or by taxi. The sleds themselves can be rented out beforehand in the valley. And if that’s not enough for you, the neighboring Zillertal Arena ski area awaits you with the longest sled run in the entire region! The Gerlosstein toboggan run is 7 kilometers long and floodlit well into the night.

Ski Touring

Mayrhofen is home to two ski mountains that offer ample opportunities for backcountry ski touring. Away from the marked pistes, you will make your way through deep snow, tackle exciting ascents and enjoy exhilarating downhill runs through virgin snow. The most popular ski tours also include a climb of the 2,900 meters-high Ahornspitze. And as we know, the journey is its own reward: those picture-book winter landscapes, the magical stillness and sense of immense freedom are an indescribable joy in their own right.
