Ski resorts in the Zillertal
Mountopolis, Zillertal Arena, Hochzillertal, Hintertux Glacier
Those who would like to explore the valley's multiple award-winning ski areas can reach them in no time by car or with the Zillertalbahn train and bus services. The Zillertal Arena convinces with a huge ski resort that stretches from Zell to Gerlos. Hochzillertal connects the areas of Kaltenbach and Hochfügen. Whoever may believe that the Mayrhofen ski area Mountopolis is small, should be told the following: 2 mountains (Ahorn & Penken), a combination of the ski areas Schwendau, Mayrhofen, Finkenberg and Tux, over 140 kilometres of slopes and over 60 modern lifts, 4 feeders (Ahorn, Penken, Horberg, Finkenberg, Rastkogel- and Eggalm), etc.
What a view, what an experience, what a holiday!
The action mountain Penken offers 110 kilometres of various slopes, which are already a highlight themselves. Everyone will find their own favorite slope here. The real experts are certainly familiar with the Harakiri slope - at 78% it is the steepest downhill run in Austria and a test of courage in its own category. Snowboarders not only romp around on the slopes, but also in the popular Penken Park. Off the slopes, the mountain huts and restaurants invite you to fortify yourself and enjoy après-ski.
As the name already suggests, the Ahorn is a bit calmer. The slopes are wide and therefore ideal for beginners and families with children. One of the most beautiful experiences is undoubtedly the red piste 5: the Ahorn downhill ski run. From the Ebenwald chairlift, the piste takes easy turns through wooded terrain, with opportunities for refreshments along the way. After 5.5 kilometres, the run ends at the bottom of the valley.

Discover the diversity in Tyrol!
You don't have to walk long distances to go cross-country skiing: the Strasser cross-country trail starts right at our apartment house, and all you have to do is open the front door. The track profile remains very flat over a length of 800 metres. Directly in and on the outskirts of Mayrhofen, other cross-country trails await you, such as the Durst trail, the Moser trail or the marathon trail with a length of 4.3 kilometres. In the neighbouring skiing areas of Hochfügen-Hochzillertal and Gerlos, there are also some first-class high-altitude trails.
2.5 kilometres long and 420 metres difference in altitude: the Wiesenhof toboggan run offers everything you need for a hearty tobogganing experience. The run starts at the Gasthof Wiesenhof, which you have to reach on foot or by taxi. The toboggans should previously be hired in the valley. If that is not enough, the longest toboggan run in the region awaits you in the neighbouring ski area of the Zillertal Arena! The Gerlosstein toboggan run is 7 kilometres long and illuminated until late at night.
Mayrhofen has two mountains that offer plenty of opportunities for ski tours. Away from the marked pistes, the route takes you through deep snow, to exciting ascents and rapid descents through untouched snow. One of the popular ski tours, for example, is the ascent to the 2,900-metre-high Ahornspitze. The way is the goal, because the dreamy winter landscapes, the magical silence and great freedom are a pleasure in themselves.
When the mountain landscape in Mayrhofen is covered in deep snow, the fairytale like landscape invites you to go on extensive hikes and snowshoe tours. In the Ahorn and Penken ski areas you can explore the nature away from the slopes. Leisurely hiking trails around Mayrhofen are always a welcome change from the high-altitude ski areas.
In Ginzling, just a few kilometres away, the so-called "Winter Magic" was formed and created. The name says it all and this quiet natural paradise knows how to convince with an exciting offer for families. Here you will find a snow tubing track, toboggan run, ski lift, cross-country ski trail and much more.
